Aesop's Fables are a collection of stories credited to Aesop, a freed slave and story teller lived in ancient Greek between 620 and 560 BC. He tells simple stories using common objects such as fox, mouse, lion and sheep in an easy yet entertaining way. Does an accurate, uncensored version of Aesop's Fables exist? In addition to this, every printed version seems to vary in terms of included fables as nobody seems to know which fables to attribute to Aesop. Does anyone know what version, if any, is currently accepted as the most complete and unedited? Best new controversial old. Follow Us: Membership. Ullam kollai poguthe songs download. Written by a former Greek slave, in the late to mid-6th century BCE, Aesopâs Fables are the worldâs best known collection of morality tales. The fables, numbering 725, were originally told from person-to-person as much for entertainment purposes but largely as a means for relaying or teaching a moral or lesson.

animals leap off the page in explosions of color, giving messages to ponder and physical beauty to savor. 'School Library Journal' called this interpretation of the classic morality tales' a delight to the eye and ear.'

This book was a very short quick read for our class. It took us one week to read it. This book really shows the point in every fable and has a good lesson. My favorite fable was The Monkey and Dolphin. I liked that one the best because it was about the monkey lying to the dolphin so the dolphin stopped being the monkey's friend. As a middle school student, this happens a lot where friends lie to each other all the time so this was a fable that was more relatable for me. I enjoyed reading this qu..more
This book was okay, it was really short which was a plus but I didn't really enjoy reading this. Although it went by pretty fast reading it in class I just don't like this type of book. This type of book it didnt hold my attention and I overall didn't enjoy it.
This was our read aloud for our class. It was a very interesting book about life lessons. My favorite fable was The Monkey and The Dolphin. It talked about how he lied and the dolphin no longer helped him. Overall it was a good book.
This class read was not bad at all. It has a couple of very good fables that teach you small life lessons. From birds in a net to donkeys falling through roofs, this book is both funny and strongly worded. I am not sure that it was the best book for me to read at the time but it was pretty good. My favorite story has to be when the man buys a hunk of gold and never uses it for anything. Just for the fact that he had something very valuable to him made him happy. When it got stolen, he put a rock..more
My class and I read this book as a read aloud. It wasn't a bad book. It really taught me a lot of lessons that made sense and related to real-life situations. My favorite fable was the tortoise and the hare. I haven't heard the whole fable before but I had heard the lesson and I love it because it is so true. Slow and steady wins the race. This book is filled with a lot of lessons that made sense that really surprised me how true they were. This was a great book and it was a quick read that ever..more
I enjoyed reading this book even though it was very short. This book was filled with short little stories such as; Tortise and the Hare, The Lion and The Mouse, The Lion in Love and many more. It was a pretty easy read but some terminology wasn't modern. It was entertaining to try and figure out what the moral meant to each individual story.
My six-year-old loved this book. It is the best version of Aesop's Fables I have found so far, but I still imagine there is a better one out there. For what it is, this is well done. The fables are short, entertaining, and to the point.

I LOVE Aesop's fables.
They are so good!
the book was good, my favorite one would have to be the monkey and dolphin because it shows that if you lie the people that are helping you or/ your friends will abandon you because you lied to them and they lost your trust.

While I appreciate the plain language of McGovern's retellings, I felt like this collection underbid Aesop a little too much. Each fable has been pared down to at most a page, more often only a paragraph, which is fine. The thing that drove me nuts was that the ending fable of each is set off in italics and very, very fortune-cookie-esque. Aesop whacked people over the head, but this nigh crushes their skulls.
The illustrations (black, white, and orangey-red) are neat--they feel like old pottery,..more
Who has the greatest wisdom? A slave. Thatâs the moral of Aesopâs Fables (and incidentally, this version doesnât have a separate moral at the end of each tale, but allows one of the characters to speak the summarizing truth â for example:
âThen the neighbor said, âPray stop your weeping⦠TO A MISER, WHAT HE HAS IS OF NO MORE USE THAN WHAT HE HAS NOT.ââ [I have turned the italics into capital letters.] Aesop bought his freedom with these seminal tales, which are much more instructive than the Bible..more

This was a cute, quick, thought-provoking read aloud for my first period class. It amazed me that even though I was very familiar with many of these stories and morals from my own childhood, that I could still apply them to life as an adult! The students and I stopped often and talked about how the info could be applied to their own lives and their relationships with their friends, and because the stories were SO quick, the students never became bored (well . mostly never). I think we all enjoy..more
This was a good book and was very short. It was an assortment of short stories that have lessons that we compared to life today. The had pictures but they were only black, white, and reddish orange. My favorite part of the book was the pictures my favorite picture was from The Monkey and The Dolphin, where the red monkey was riding the white dolphin in the black water and a black ship in the back.
I liked this book but I didn't like that there was no plot development.

I recently read Aesop's Fables, it was a very good book of fables, with lots of talking animals. Each fable tells a different story and has different morals. A few of my favorite fables are, The Trees and the Ax and The Boy and the Nuts. They were very well written. In, The Trees and the Ax, there is a woodsman who is getting ready to cut down some old trees and the trees tell him where to find a younger tree that he can cut down. The woodsman goes and pulls the young tree out of the ground. He..more

Appeal: 2nd to 4th Graders Like Greek and Roman mythology, thereâs just something universally appealing about Aesopâs fables. They give insight into human behavior and help readers make better choices. This collection of 60 plus stories features 1-page tales accompanied by appropriate, if unremarkable, illustrations and the main idea highlighted in bold at the end of the tale. One of my favorite fables stars the Roman god of all gods, Jupiter (Zeus is his Greek equivalent) a..more

While there are some familiar fables that you will recognize there are a lot of short stories in here that are new to me. Each fable is very short but at the very end the message that is to be received from the story is very clearly spelled out. This would be great for schools and classrooms because with the moral/lesson clearly listed it would be easy for classes to discuss the story and the moral.
Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend this to children or teachers who want to learn/tea..more

I really loved this book. It isn't the kind of book that you have to just sit and read straight through. It is more like something where you read one or two stories a day. The stories are all very short. The only illustrations are at the very beginnings of the stories. They are all very simple and usually illustrate exactly what the title is. My favorite thing about this book is that after each story, there is a short sentence or two that is in bold. These sentences tell the reader exactly what..more

This was an easy-to-read collection. The brevity of fables makes them attractive because you can read a few, then come back later and read a few more. The wording is kid-friendly and having the morals at the end of each entry is very convenient. I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning where we get phrases such as 'sour grapes' or 'crying wolf'. It would make a perfect book for a teacher to have on hand, either to read aloud a few a day to the class, or for use in a genre study. T..more

What I enjoyed about these fables, and how others pointed it out as well, was how there is a lesson to be learned by each fable and can be applied to any time period. I do like the art work as well for it is very child friendly and very simple. Even as an adult I can relate to the lessons being taught, and the lesson is taught in such a short and simple way that gets to the point. I think this would be a great addition to the classroom.

This small-format collection of the classic Aesop's Fables is perfect for all ages. The stories are extremely short - most half a page to a full page - and accompanied by black and white illustrations. Beginning chapter book readers will be able to enjoy them - though at times they might need some clarification, I know my 7-year-old did. Readers will find the source for many of our everyday sayings. Out of the numerous Aesop collections I have seen, I like the format of this one the best.

There are many fables that I did not know of that I read in this collection of fables. I feel that there are a lot of good morals to learn from these somewhat silly fables form monkey, dolphins, donkeys, cranes, wolves, and foxes. A lot of these fables would help children think about selfish or irrational actions. They could be used to teach certain morals to children.

I tried to read this on my own several years in a row and just couldn't like it. Then I used it this year as part of a literature curriculum, and it came alive. These are truly a great place to start when teaching Charlotte-Mason-style narration, and I have been so pleased with how they are working for us this year.

This is an easy-to-read picture book of Aesop's fables. After each short story the moral is stated in bold font. This book is a great way to familiarize children with the meaning behind some common idioms, like 'misery loves company,'leave well enough alone,' 'look before you leap,' and many others. This would be a good addition for any children's home library.

I loved this book! So cute and easy to read! I love the morals of all the stories! This would be a great story to read to your children or to your students! Great life lessons taught through this book!
Aesopâs Fables by Ann McGovern includes over 60 short retellings of fables written by Aesop. They are easy and quick to read. It is fun to see where so many things in our every day speech came from. I highly recommend this set of fables to elementary aged children.
Loved It! another great bedtime book!
